Big news for film and TV production schedulers: Think Crew now supports importing and exporting .msd and .mmsx files. Whether you’re switching platforms, collaborating with studios that archive in MM format, or simply want more flexibility in how you manage your data, this update has you covered.
Full Interoperability with MMS
For decades, MMS has been the industry standard for production scheduling. Its proprietary file formats – .msd (legacy) and .mmsx (modern) – are deeply embedded in studio workflows, archive systems, and vendor pipelines across the industry.
With this release, Think Crew becomes one of the only modern scheduling platforms capable of reading and writing both formats. That means your historical schedules, your collaborators’ files, and your studio’s archived breakdowns are now fully accessible right inside Think Crew.
Two Powerful Use Cases
Migrating to a Modern Workflow
If you’re ready to move away from legacy scheduling software but have years of schedules saved in .msd or .mmsx format, this feature makes migration painless. Simply import your existing files into Think Crew and pick up right where you left off, no manual re-entry, no lost data, no disruption to your production.
Collaborating with Studios That Prefer MM Format
Many production companies and studios still standardize on MMS for archiving and delivery. Now you can build and manage your schedules in Think Crew’s modern, cloud-based environment, then export directly to .msd or .mmsx format for handoff. No conversion tools, no third-party workarounds, just a clean export in the format your studio requires.
How to Import an MSD or MMSX File
Getting your existing schedules into Think Crew is simple:
- Navigate to your Schedules page.
- Click the Import button.
- Drop your .msd or .mmsx file into the dropzone.

Your Data Belongs to You
At Think Crew, we’ve always believed that your schedules are yours. That’s why we helped pioneer the Universal Schedule Standard, an open framework that gives schedulers the freedom to move their data across platforms without friction or lock-in.
MSD and MMSX support is a natural extension of that commitment. We’re not just building a better scheduling tool, we’re building one that plays well with the rest of the industry, past and present.
